Our Education

The PMA® certification requires a candidate to provide verification of teacher training proficiency using 450+ hours of training on all apparatus and all levels of mat as a basis. The PMA® certified teacher is required to complete 16 hours of continuing education within every two years to maintain and renew their certified status. The PMA® certified Pilates teacher creates and implements safe and effective individualized programs. The instructor who has successfully achieved this recognition is awarded the title of Certified Pilates Teacher (CPT).

BASI Pilates® is a leading Pilates education academy with a reputation for innovation, dedication, and academic excellence. BASI stands for Body Arts and Science International, which is both the name of the academy’s holding company and an affirmation of its approach to Pilates studies. The mission of BASI Pilates® is to create and maintain professional standards for the teaching of the Pilates Method and to preserve and perpetuate the gift of Pilates by educating teachers of the highest caliber.

The Pilates Center continues Joseph Pilates legacy directly through elder Romana Kryzanowska with not one but three second generation teachers at the helm, trained by Romana, Kathy Grant and Eve Gentry. Founders Amy and Rachel with Romana started the Pilates Center Teacher Training Program in 1991 and have continued to develop the highest caliber of teachers, with the most comprehensive and in-depth classical teacher program available.

Karena Thek began studying Pilates as a dance student. After retiring from a professional dance career, Karena began teaching Pilates at her own studio, Pilates Thek. Six months after opening the studio, Karena became the Director of Pilates at SCV Therapy Services and expanded her study of common spine pathologies in the rehabilitation setting. She wrote her first book, Osteo Pilates, in 2003, as a result of working directly with a high percentage of women with osteoporosis and without a reliable resource to steer them towards for safe exercise for osteoporosis.

Scolio-Pilates® came out of a desire to help a specific client with scoliosis as well as trying to heal the pain from her own scoliosis. The Pilates Golf Athlete was developed with the realization that, like most sports, many of its participants do not have the physical tools or capability to perform the movement that they are trying to perform. Once the physical capacity is put in place, the game flourishes!

Marie-José Blom created and directs the Advances in Pilates Technique, currently known as Pilates Leadership Concepts (PLC). This acclaimed program was the very first program in an official format established in 1991 and continues its curriculum under new owner /directorship for California.

Marie-José has established programs at various facilities internationally and is in great demand for lectures and presentations, both locally and internationally for institutes, physical therapists, and movement educators. Since 2007, Marie-José’s PLC program and specialty workshops have gained popularity in Tokyo, Japan. The desire and ambition in Japan for higher education led to a comprehensive program which brings Marie-José to Tokyo four to five times a year, making Japan her second home.
