Upcoming Events

Announcements

  • We would like to congratulate Melissa on completing her final exam for her PMA Teacher Certification!
  • The Franklin Method Peanuts and books are in!  We have 8 left with the book, so please let me know if you want a set.  The set is $40, peanut by itself is $30, and the book by itself is $16.  Taxes and shipping are included.
  • We will be making changes to the scheduling software.  We will be doing this through the month of December.  Thank you for your patience during this time.
  • We will be closed on Christmas Day, Monday, 12/25. Anna will be off on Tuesday, 12/26, for Boxing Day.
  • Need some extra sparkle this Holiday Season? Let Syntheia flare your hair with Fairy Hair! She'll be in the studio on Saturday, 12/16. Times slots are between 1:00pm and 4:00pm. Appointments fill quickly, so sign up as soon as possible. Syntheia's upcoming Fairy Hair dates are 1/17 and 2/7.
  • This year, Stabilize Studios will be offering Gift Certificates.  Give the gift of Pilates to your family and friends!  Ask us for details.
  • Save the date for New Years Day to start off with a sweet 2018. We will be providing a mat class followed by coffee and cinnamon rolls.

In lieu of a holiday party, we will wait until January where we can combine multiple celebrations in one.   We have so much to celebrate from this past year, like the 2nd Anniversary of Stabilize Studios!   Please save the date and join us for brunch and a white elephant gift exchange on Saturday, January 13, 2018 from 10:30am-12:30pm.

Know Your Anatomy


"Good posture can be successfully acquired only when the entire mechanism of the body is under perfect control.  Graceful carriage follows as a matter of course." - Joseph Pilates

That’s great, so exactly what does that mean?!! Posture is a balancing act. Imagine yourself like a marionette with a string running through your center connecting your parts (skull, shoulder girdle, ribs and pelvis).  The string would be your spine.  If one of these sections is out of place (like flared ribs, which would be in front of the pelvis) your alignment is off.  In order for your parts to work most efficiently, there needs to be a certain level of alignment and balance within your body parts.

So how does this pertain to Pilates...Pilates is movement organization, postural training, and movement efficiency.  When you are training your posture, you are training for more efficient movement.  When you are training more efficient movement, you are likewise training posture.

How can you be your tallest self?  Here are a few visual cues that might help!
  • Imagine that the top of your head is a spotlight….always shine to the sky.
  • Imagine you have sunshine glowing from your breast plate and you want everyone to see it.….lift your breastplate and shine on!  (Be careful not to flare your ribs, keep them connected toward your pelvis)
  • Slide your shoulder blades towards your back pockets, like slippery bars of soap, this will also help elevate your breast plate.
  • Check to see that your ribs are stacked over your pelvis and shoulder girdle over ribs, with relaxed muscles.  The feeling of no effort in standing means that core is on!!
  • Imagine your leg bones are buoys and your pelvis is floating on top in the center of the socket.
  • Press the feet down into the floor when standing for a lifting activation.
You will only get better at the problem, unless you start focusing on what the solution is.  I look forward to seeing your tallest self!!!

Charity of the Month: Assistance League of the Triangle Area

This year, the Assistance League of the Triangle Area needs the following items:
  • Wet Wipes
  • Hand Sanitizer
  • Shampoo & Conditioner
  • Body Wash and Wash Cloths
  • Toothpaste and Toothbrushes
  • Tissues
  • Lotion

Why is the PMA important to you as a client?

The Pilates Method Alliance (PMA), is the formal recognition of acceptable professional standards within the Pilates arena.  The PMA certification requires a candidate to provide verification of teacher training proficiency using 450+ hours of training on all apparatus and all levels of mat as a basis. The PMA certified teacher is required to complete 16 hours of continuing education within every two years to maintain and renew their certified status.  PMA certified Pilates teacher creates and implements safe and effective individualized programs. The instructor who has successfully achieved this recognition is awarded the title of Certified Pilates Teacher (CPT).

 The Far Out Brussels Sprout!

Why do Brussels sprouts have such a bad reputation?  Is it the smell?  The taste?  Texture?  Famous chef, Todd English, said, "Brussels sprouts are misunderstood - probably because most people don't know how to cook them properly."  Roasting them in the oven caramelizes the sprouts' natural sugars and allows their sweetness to shine.  The tiny vegetable is packed with vitamin C, K, and B6, it's an excellent source of folate, potassium, protein, and omega-3 fatty acids.  The rich nutrients in Brussels sprouts helps us defend against obesity, diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and can improve skin, bones, and overall health.  For all the good this veggie does for our bodies, we should not doubt the sprout!
